I think I'm a masochist

Last night I burned myself, and It actually felt... not bad, not good... but It felt exhilarating. Now, my left hand has quite a few burns on it from me heating up my letter opener and placing it on my had. It sounds weird, I know...

There is a line, how ever fine it maybe, between Emo/selfharm and Masochism. Self harm is hurting yourself because you deserve it, Masochism is when you enjoy pain, so it isn't hurting yourself.

I think many of us like some degrees of pain.
Whenever somebody I don't want to smoke smokes, I dig my nails deep into my forehead until my body spasms.
There is a sort of pride in hurting yourself. Testing your pain tolerance is a very simple and accurate of comparing yourself to others.

my friend bits her nails to the point that they bleed and when she can't get at the properly with her teeth she uses a safety pin. It isn't because she depressed or anything its just a nervous habit and she like the pain to a certain point so i guess she would be a masochist. Its sounds like you are one. It's not like you do it when your upset or hurt right? If you did it when you felt depressed then you probably could actually hurt your self seriously and should seek help. If you do it cause you enjoy it then i dont know what to tell you... other then don't hurt yourself to bad and i guess have fun=p
