As games mature...do we?
After watching so many ESRB rating debates about games on Xplay, I've wondered if we as a society and as people are really maturing as these games do; per say as like these games are getting more "graphic" or "violent" ( I personally, just think they're getting more interesting and in depth). What are your thoughts? Do you think we really need games like Mad World, 50 Cent or even Call Of Duty in our generation? Hmmm. Pondering isn't it? xp

Games aren't really getting more mature, just more violent. It's sad that people assume that Call of Duty and Gears of War are intelligent games, when in fact, they just grey-scale themselves and mark themselves as such.
But we will always mature the rate of our media. If movies, music and games are getting more dark and psychological, so will we, as we will be intelligently challenged and stimulated.

Games have gotten better in graphics by far. But humanity is still interested in the same things as we were since civilization began.
Violence, sex, and humor based on other people's pain. And it is not going to change.
In short; no, games have not matured, they just look better.

It's not the game.. It's the people who make it.

i always had this theory that violent video games don't really encourage violence because the more realistic it is (grand theft auto 4 for example) the more you feel like you've already done it. what's the point of doing it again in real life? it's hard to explain so i hope i worded that enough for people to understand.

See, I think that older games (pre-2000) were developed to hide the truth from children. But now that we watch the news, we are already used to it and aren't significantly affected by it.

the only reason ratings exist is because for one in every million people there is the one person who thinks its fun to kill people in a game like Grand Theft Auto or Call Of Duty and then thinks whats more fun then doing it in a game... doing it in real life! then that guy goes out and kills a bunch of people and the video game companies get blamed -.- if you ask me that's not right

No, they exist so that a mother doesn't have to explain to her first grader what a "stupid cunt" is, or why the woman was moaning in the back of the van.
